Changing the World…

I believe in the power of 1 + 1. That is to say, that I believe in the power of an individual, added together with the power of another individual, into infinity, can really make some lasting, important changes to the world. By myself, I might not be able to effect permanent changes to things I would rather see be different. But if I tell someone about my ideas and inspirations, and they tell someone, and then that person tells someone else…well, you see how it can quickly snowball into a real movement.

It starts with one.

So, in thinking about this, I thought I would share some websites with you that you might also deem as worthy as I do:

..To fund free mammograms and help those with breast cancer:

These places (and the people involved with them) help change things in the world, and they are full of people working hard every day to do their part to make the world a better place. If you care about the planet, the environment, animals, human rights, our country’s economy, and numerous other worthwhile causes, you might take a minute to check them out.

Some have “Click to donate” buttons which all add up – instead of watching that next YouTube video, take a time out and make your clicks count for something that will affect things in the real world. Take a few minutes to send a letter to Congress or the Senate (or call!), sign a petition and make your voice heard regarding issues like oil speculation, global warming, helping kids who need it, stopping violence…the list just goes on and on.

EDIT (Added Note): When you “Click to Donate”, it is not YOUR money you are donating, but the money comes from the advertisers who advertise on the site(s). THEY donate a certain amount of THEIR money to the site, depending on the number of “clicks”. (The logic behind this is that each “click” counts as someone seeing their ads).

The whole world needs help. Even one person has the power to make it a better place. Positive energy can feed itself, and when one person devotes energy toward helping, and then increases that energy through friends (or strangers!), it makes a difference. You may not believe it, you may think it’s just idealistic propaganda, but whether you believe it or not, it works. Think about it: wars are fought and won because enough people had the same idea(s) and turned idea(s) into action.  How about you? Is it worth a minute or two of the time you spend on the computer each day?

I hope you at least think about and consider it. 🙂 As always, thanks for reading! And maybe pass it on?

It all starts with one…

You may have heard of this organization, or you may not have, but when I came across them, it blew me away. I wanted to share with all of you this awesome, awesome force for peace and creativity! These people are trying to reach everyone and effect real change for peace and helping others (helping Tibetan refugees, for example) through the power of music, by recording well-known songs from different people around the world.

Music has been called the “Universal Language” and after watching even one of the three videos listed below, I think you’ll agree.  They’re all great songs, and you probably know at least one of them. I really, really like what they did with “One Love”, but then, I’ve been a Bob Marley fan for a long time. The guy Grampa Elliot from New Orleans has some other videos on YouTube, and I think he is just great! Give a listen…and if you like it, check out the site, The Playing For Change Foundation.

“One Love”

“Don’t Worry”

“Stand By Me”
