((I know that today will be filled with too many memories about 9/11 and people probably don’t want to read or see any more of them. I know that for me, that day will forever be seared in my mind. I have mixed feelings about the memorials going on about it – there seems to be something of a “festive” air to some of the gatherings…and…that just seems very wrong to me. I understand wanting to celebrate that America survived, that we still are a strong nation, despite what happened. But does anyone remember how we all pulled together as a nation right after 9/11? We were all one. And surely as it is in our nature, we’re just as divided as ever now. There is now (still?) so much hate and intolerance in a nation that I remember was united in the tragedy of that day. I wrote this poem shortly after it happened, and while it isn’t my best, I feel that the message is still relevant and important. Thanks for taking the time to read. May you all be blessed today.))
"The Falling Man" by Richard Drew
When towers crumbled to the ground,
and countless lives were lost,
the planet paused to look around
and count the bloody cost.
Remember.
When tyrants ruled with loaded gun
and cries of “Freedom!” would get you shot,
there were those who believed, but didn’t run,
they knew they faced Death, yet they fought.
Remember.
When evil made the nightly news
and orange was more than a fruit.
A battle the U.S. refused to lose
for Corporate America, politicians, the “suit”.
Remember.
While dying planet gasps for life
foul man-kind plunders on.
No thoughts but profits, constructed strife,
‘Till the virus, Man, is gone.
Remember!
With time’s passage, all man-kind forgets,
caught up in the moment of “Now”.
Those few who remember and learn from the debts
might be able to save us….somehow.

I was just replying with the next few lines of our little project and wishing that there won’t be a day like today repeated ever and the notification for your new post came! I’ve been always against any kind of violence and I strongly judge people who take innocent lives in the name of some cause … I remember very well this day 10 years ago, it was sad, terrible day for the whole world! I pray for the families who lost dear people and I do hope together with you the lesson extracted from that day would be treasured by the ones responsible … Stay strong! I am going to share this poem on facebook, because I really like it and I believe there is a great message in it!
