~ Feeling Blue in a Red State ~

Red state.
Full of red-necks,
And their red, ‘Murican blood.
Flag waving,
Non-white hating,
Cesspool of inbred brood.

Your ignorance is excusable.
Your stupidity is not.
You narrow-minded,
Backwards bigots,
Who seldom have
An original thought.

Thump your Bibles louder,
Maybe God, Himself,
Will hear.
Spread the hatred,
Pump yourselves up prouder,
Sow dissent,
And reap the fear.

Your Reich-Wing, facist antics,
Sure collect a lot
Of wannabes.
Forget about arguing
Intelligent semantics,
You only mimic your idols,
On your big-screen T.V.s.

Never a thought,
Of how you
Affect the planet.
Never thinking about,
The future of ALL.
No concern for
How your so-called leaders
Straw-manned it,
As long as you’ve got yours,
The rest can just crawl.

The one comfort I have,
Living here, among you,
Is that I’ve already escaped
This cesspit of snakes.
Karma will catch you,
Sooner or later.
And reveal
All you gun-toting,
Beer-bloating,
Mindless voting,
Scripture mis-quoting,
Intolerance-promoting,
Haters
As fakes.

About dragonkatet

Regarding the blog name, Dragon’s Dreams ~ The name comes from my love-affairs with both Dragons and Dreams (capital Ds). It’s another extension of who I am, a facet for expression; a place and way to reach other like-minded, creative individuals. I post poetry and images that fascinate or move me, because that’s my favorite way to view the world. I post about things important to me and the world in which we live, try to champion extra important political, societal and environmental issues, etc. Sometimes I wax philosophical, because it’s also a place where I always seem to learn about myself, too, by interacting with some of the brightest minds, souls and hearts out there. It’s all about ‘connection(s)’ and I don’t mean “net-working” with people for personal gain, but rather, the expansion of the 4 L’s: Light, Love, Laughter, Learning.

  1. everyone is nice if you get to know them…

    • dragonkatet says:

Ah, I wish that that were true, Mr. Brewster. Unfortunately, life experience has shown me differently…in order to get to “know” someone, he or she has to be open to being “known”.

  2. I admire people who can turn such subject into poems. I personally can’t, it comes as an angry scribbling usually :)! Enjoyed reading this Corina! Thanks a lot for all the loveliness you left at my blog :)! Hugs!

    • dragonkatet says:

Thanks, Blaga. I’m sure the anger shows through in this, and it isn’t normally what I’d put out there for the rest of the world to see, but I get so frustrated sometimes in trying to talk reasonably to people who refuse to try and see a viewpoint different from their own. Here in the “South”, so much narrow-minded, racist and hateful ideology is deemed acceptable (and even favored) under the guise of “tradition”. It sickens me. :-/ *Hugs back atcha, gf*

  3. Tough subject deftly handled. Very nice!

    • dragonkatet says:

Thank you, John. I know that even posting this probably makes me seem as judgmental as those to whom it is directed. It’s just frustrating dealing with rednecks on a regular basis. :-/ Thanks for stoppin by, Cap’n. I appreciate it.

  4. Jo Bryant says:

i agree with both comments – difficult to turn this sort of subject into a poem that does not become a rant – you did this well. 🙂

  5. dragonkatet says:

Hey, thanks, Jo. It felt and still feels like a rant, but it was as nice as I could get without resorting to foul language. 🙂 Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.

  6. Bodhirose says:

It would get very tiresome to have to deal with bigotry and ignorance on a regular basis. I totally understand your feelings. And what’s so wrong with a good rant now and then–as long as you don’t hurt yourself or others! I actually enjoyed this, Corina.

    Gayle

    • dragonkatet says:

Thanks, Gayle. You’re right, of course, that a good rant can be like therapy. Thanks for taking the time to come by and comment! 🙂 I feel better already.

  7. eebrinker says:

hey there is nothing wrong with a rant, and what IS a rant, anyway? too much emotion? righteous indignation? the truth?

far as the subject matter — i will quote myself: “you can’t cure stupid.”

ha! think hit the nail on the head with the not caring for or about the whole. it’s a me and mine but to hell with everybody else attitude that not only is a font of incorrect perspectives, but at the same time SEALS off that individual from honest discussion. AND the discussion is avoided because each “selling-point” for the politics is hand-fed in a whole block WITHOUT the reasoning (often because there is none) … so you get a “belief” with no foundation of knowledge. top that off with no understanding for the NEED of knowledge within political ideologies ………. and we have what you describe here.

it’s like this. if all were kings and queens ….. and were receiving advice and policies from advisers … the sort is one that takes the ANSWER and runs with it, instead of digesting the reasoning to determine if an aspect is true or not. or at least close to something that can be applied on a universal basis. it’s how you design puppet-rulers.

so comes down to those who think, and those who like to be told WHAT to think. and you can’t “discuss” with them, because if you aren’t in exact alignment with their chosen thought — anything you say is not computed. (in other words, you are not even arguing with the original maker of the thoughts, and so there is no access to argue … it’s like dealing with a program that is read-only.)

i seriously see this social phenomena as resulting from lacks in brain-abilities or some kind of training to not use more of the brain and instead this psychological prototype will memorize everything where the only decision that needs to be made then is WHO to follow — not what to believe or consider as honest dictate. (and then of course you get the phenomena of mixing the ‘good’ with the ‘bad’ … like how bad chapters are added to good bills to get them passed. just can’t operate that way with how Oz works.)

why does this process of brain-dead manifest as the mechanism of “the right.” ? i don’t know, but that it’s how you rule a stupid people (and create a pool of potential puppet-leaders), while the motivation is to KEEP them that way (note the cuts in education and so forth). and then the “feedings” become one of promoting that “attack ideology” for any who are not “in step” with the “feedings” of what role you are to fill and what political aim. (when the goal is to do good on a test rather than actual goals for learning and deciphering material …even the political stand to hold teachers-pay to test scores will promote bad-teaching and yea, it’s alarming as hell to see these particular wheels start their motion.)

honestly i don’t care what someone wants to ‘believe’ or hope for in political arenas, as long as it comes from THEM. what pisses me off is when you hear the same regurgitated B.S. over and over from DIFFERENT MOUTHS. and then you get treated like you’re not supposed to RECOGNIZE what they are saying as REPEATED rhetoric rather than anything approaching original thought. (and i have a theory that it has to do with time-lines, and a cadence or rhythm to language that identifies it as OLD or something that had to have been memorized. why you can ‘tell’ when it is regurgitated thought almost immediately might be more due to subtle changes in language that run through like exponential wildfire). if you go back to computing, it’s like the encryption key is constantly changing — so that is how we work “truth” and identifiers for real and original thought into the language itself.

but anyway, regurgitated thought is so frustrating because those going on memorizing their stands don’t even know that’s what they are doing … that is how stupid we are talking about stupid. not necessarily a genetic fault or proclivity, even … but a type of programming or a type of indoctrinated shortcut to “learning.” and yea, it’s sad when don’t even know how are functioning as yet one more mouth to a bigger entity. and that’s why you can’t argue with them or reach agreement-points, because that entity isn’t even there.

myself, am from a line of teachers. and you don’t teach that way, for those memorization outcomes– if you’re anyway near good; the point is to get others to THINK, and even find the reasoning for themselves. not to simply expand memorization capabilities.

to hear those indoctrinated in the memorization of policy … it is not necessary to even hear them finish their sentence — just replay the record that they (the right-wing minah birds) have plugged-in to replace a thinking part of their brain. (so for those of us ranging towards efficiency-expert, the waste of time is annoying as hell. because we already heard that argument, and dismissed it as non-applicable. ) and it’s not “hating” if it’s the truth and you actually feel sad that you can’t fool yourself into believing there are some real minds there.

there are all kinds of deaths. what is a ‘zombie’ and what does it mean to have your spirit as part of your mind, rather than subject to-it? you have to have something over mind, an element to super-ego that is not just more ego.

and BTW, poetry is about what makes free-thought tick ………… and the “forbidden” that is applied to religion and politics, you will note a poo-pooing of politics yet a ready acceptance of religion via poetic verse. *shakes head, sighs, and takes another sip of coffee*

you done good. and i actually think better of the south than i otherwise would, due to you and the abilities to think on your feet. so there ya go.

you know one of the reasons i had to write-off my sister? because she was just taking what i said or computed myself, as one more thing to memorize and regurgitate. and you CAN’T revert or change those socked-in to the memorization form of learning. it’s a way to “feel sure of themselves” and then operate from that base of security.

perhaps something to do with semantics or that is a key …….. “learn them some manners” ……. the differences between “teach” and “learn” that are not present in some societies. maybe. eh well, i drone on ………… hope you are having a good week (and don’t have much invested in the stock market. ha!)

    • dragonkatet says:

Thanks bunches, E! You touched on so many true points in this. It’s GREAT to know that someone else out there comprehends all the reasons why it’s so frustrating dealing with these people. And you know, I keep trying (because I’m stubborn like that) but sometimes I just want to give up because so much of what you pointed out is true! Lol, you’re sooooo right – you can’t cure stupid. And you can’t open minds which refuse to even entertain the idea of seeing something beyond their own, small world. As for your sister, I think you did the right thing in letting it go – that way lies madness, gf. You’re right about the religious angle, too – why is that? Why is it more acceptable to write about religion than politics? Maybe there should be a “freedom of politics” clause in the constitution, as well, and then maybe it would be more p.c. – either way, p.c. or not, I’ll continue to write (and probably post) this stuff…though I almost didn’t as a matter of “choosing my battles” – there will inevitably be someone who gets offended by something I write…and in that case, I’ll just have to shrug and remind them/myself “You can’t please all the people all the time.” 🙂 Thanks for coming by. It’s been hella busy lately, but I plan to try and catch up on your stuff tonight!

      • eebrinker says:

i didn’t mean to put a friggin encyclopedia on your blog ….it’s just i’ve thought about this a LOT. people think they need to prove they are “smart” … so will just memorize ten tons of crap instead of learning how to draw conclusions themselves. and then you see that manifested in the political arenas where it really is a joke how much is memorized and repeated instead of really thought-upon.

and it’s why you can’t discuss issues, because the solid response when a memorizer can’t respond is to shut down the conversation. i mean, there is such a consistent pattern to the behavior that could almost be a disease catching or zombies or pod people from outer space! sis did watch a lot of godzilla movies ….

i’ve always wanted to figure out how to “save” my sister, and why have detailed all the reasoning in my mind, with all the probable causes. had to finally ‘let go’ because some things you can’t fix. or if you tear yourself up trying — then even if you win, you lose.

so thanks for the affirmations on sticking to taking care of me; it’s not selfish if you live to fight another day.

This is why I prefer to live on one coast or the other. Not perfect, but not quite as frustrating. 🙂

    • dragonkatet says:

SO true! I miss Seattle (my birthplace) but I’ve never really been on the east coast. Hoping to see D.C. next April for the Cherry Blossom Festival, so I’m hoping the people there will be nice. But yes, the attitudes are miles apart!
